A model airplane built to memorialize a Berks County soldier who died in World War II is coming home.

A model B-29 "Superfortress" was built to honor Richard Becker, who was one of seven men who died when their plane went down and crashed in the water off the island of Saipan.

The model was built by Becker's younger brother, who shared fond memories with his brother of building rubber-band powered model airplanes before he went to war.

Now, the plane will find a permanent home at the Berks Military History Museum in Mohnton.

"It tells a Berks County story, and a very compelling family story from World War II," said Pa. Rep. Mark Gillen.

Museum officials said there will be a ceremony honoring Becker when the B-29 goes on display.
