Open Saturday 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

The Berks Military History Museum in Mohnton held a candlelight vigil to mark the 24th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The vigil was among events held in Berks, including one hosted by Reading officials and firefighters in City Park, to remember the victims and first responders.

The ceremony at the museum, 198 E. Wyomissing Ave., began at 8:46 a.m. — the exact moment the first plane hit the World Trade Center.

The ceremony was conducted in front of the museum’s Ground Zero Steel Memorial, which contains a steel girder from one of the towers.

Museum founder and state Rep. Mark M. Gillen spoke about the importance of honoring those who lost their lives that day and in the ongoing war on terror.
